Game Of Thrones: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
12. The Watchers On The Wall (S4E9)
Written By: David Benioff & D.B Weiss Directed By: Neil Marshall
A sort-of spiritual sequel to Blackwater, insofar as it's directed by Marshall and spends all its time at one location, the penultimate episode of Season 4 doesn't quite match the same impact; the build-up wasn't as compelling, so it lacks the same punch.
That said, it's a visual spectacle that stands with almost anything else Thrones has made, with mammoths, giants, and a huge freakin' ice scythe, it looks completely stunning, and Ygritte's death is still likely to leave you a little emotional.
11. The Door (S6E5)
Written By: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Directed By: Jack Bender
One of the most emotional episodes in all of Game of Thrones, and not that only only gave us a huge moment before the books do, but massively opened up the world of the show and what might be possible with the idea of time travel.
There are a few powerful scenes here, with Sansa confronting Littlefinger, and goes into detail about the abuse she suffered thanks to him marrying her off to Ramsay Bolton (which serves as the show acknowledging they f**ked up in Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken), and Daenerys bidding (a possibly final) farewell to Jorah. But this episode is going to be remembered for those three words that broke our hearts.
"Hold The Door."
Someone hold me.
