Game Of Thrones: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Battle Of The Bastards (S6E9)

Game of Thrones Jon Snow army battle of the bastards

Written By: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Directed By: Miguel Sapochnik

Perhaps the best directed episode of Game of Thrones, and certainly the most cinematic, Battle of the Bastards is a feast for the eyes. After a surprise turn with Daenerys and her dragons (looking bigger and better than ever before), it's on to the headline act, which doesn't disappoint.

The scale is huge, with hundreds of extras, but Sapochnik wisely chooses to focus on the intimate, as we follow Jon Snow through the battle. It's frenetic, intense, bloody, and at times incredibly suffocating. It suffers a little, when compared to similar episodes, due to slight predicability and dodgy character decisions, but it is nonetheless a truly stunning episode of television, with a payoff that will leave you cheering.
