Arya's hysterical laughter, after arriving at the Eyrie only to discover her aunt Lysa is dead, encapsulates the entire series. With misery upon setback upon heartache upon death, what else is there to do? Except cry, perhaps.

Aside from that, we have Ramsay being legitimised after conquering Moat Cailin, the wildlings raiding Mole's Town, Daenerys exiling Jorah, and Sansa truly starting to transform into a play of the game.

And then there's the trial by combat. Oberyn is not just Tyrion's champion, he's the people's. The viewers fell in love with the Red Viper of Dorne in Season 4, so naturally it ended in heartbreak, but this feels particularly cruel. After doing his best Inigo Montoya in a superb clash of styles with Gregor Clegane, the Oberyn finally appears to get the victory.

And then he gets his head popped.
