Game Of Thrones: Every Penultimate Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
1. The Rains Of Castamere (S3, E9)
As phenomenal as Battle of the Bastards is, what else could really take the top spot?
There are many key moments that happen in this episode: Grey Worm, Jorah, and Daario seizing Yunkai for Daenerys, Bran sending Osha and Rickon away (neither re-appearing until season 6), Bran using his warg abilities on Hodor for the first time, and Jon turning on the wildlings, revealing he’s still a crow.
And while those are important moments, enough stalling. You know why this is number one.
The Red Wedding: the most famous and impactful scene of the entire show. The pure horror of this sequence, especially since it comes right out of nowhere, just can't be topped. It never gets any easier watching the pregnant Talisa get stabbed to death, Robb stabbed in the heart by Roose Bolton or Catelyn’s scream before her throat is sliced...unless you had read the books, there was just no way of seeing this coming.
No matter how many shocking scenes this show has had, this will always be the one most remembered for how it completely pulls the rug from under us when we think that these characters were safe. And that’s exactly why Game of Thrones was such an excellent series in the first place.
What do you think is the show's best penultimate episode? Let us know down in the comments.
