Game Of Thrones: Every Season 7 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

2. 'The Spoils Of War'

For the first time in the season, HBO really rolled out the impressive cinematography for an unbelievably memorable final action sequence on the fields between Highgarden and King's Landing. The episode may have been the shortest in the show's history, but that sequence was a pure expression of Thrones at its finest.

There was grim, almost fetishised violence in the burning of the Lannister forces and there was unbelievable stuntwork, but in introducing Tyrion as a viewer (as punishment for his failings), we also got an insight into George RR Martin's anti-war mentality more than anywhere else in the show. Plus, it was like watching your favourite friends fighting and fully expecting them to be killed off, without knowing which you're really rooting for.

The return of Bronn, and his push to the forefront of the action was inspired, and everything else around the set-piece was fairly great too, with Jon showing Dany his cave, Cersei planning the Golden Company's involvement and Littlefinger and Bran's interaction.

Hopefully, that tease of Meera going home to her family might mean we get to see Howland Reed at some point in the last season too, which is nice.

Best Moment:

That stunning attack on the Loot Train (particularly the sequence showing Bronn running through the battlefield towards the Scorpion) stands out, but it could have been any number really.

Worst Moment:

Bran being all Bran with Meera.
