Game Of Thrones Preview: What To Expect From Season Finale Mother's Mercy

7. Stannis Marches For Winterfell

As Melisandre says: €œThe Lord of Light has made good on his promise, my King.€ Yes, the snow has melted, clearing the path for Stannis to march to war with the Boltons, and all it took was burning his sweet, innocent daughter at the stake. After paying such a price, Stannis will need to make his war effort count, and he€™ll begin by heading to Winterfell here, with the siege apparently set to begin at sunrise. After the huge battle of Hardhome in episode 8, and the dragon riding last week, will there be enough left in the budget to stage another epic battle scene, or will the war itself have to wait until season 6 (or just take place mostly off-screen)? Ramsay and Stannis (after last week) are both characters that the audience loves to hate, and if the war does occur then at least one of them may not be making to through to next April.
