Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best

50. Varys

Game Of Thrones Ned Stark
HBO

Death: Executed by Daenerys (by her dragon) for conspiring against her.

Varys (Conleth Hill) was a brilliant, brilliant character and arguably one of the show's finest. Unfortunately, he also fell victim to the messy writing of season eight and died an awful death at the hands of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).

The Varys from earlier seasons would've tried to talk his way out of it and would never have been caught conspiring against anyone. Conleth Hill, who has openly admitted he wasn't a massive fan of the latter two seasons, performed this death scene very well, which is what you'd expect from such a masterful performer, but that must've taken a lot of effort given how underwhelming this exit truly was.

Considering how important a character he was, this also felt far too rushed and glossed over. Additionally, Tyrion was the one who ultimately betrayed Varys to Daenerys and this should've been a weighty moment for Tyrion, since he and Varys were good friends by this point, but instead it didn't seem to have any real effect on Tyrion.

What an awful waste.
