Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best

20. Ygritte

Game Of Thrones Ned Stark
HBO

Death: Killed by Olly during the Battle of the Wall.

This was a tragic and moving end to both Ygritte's (Rose Leslie) life and a star-crossed love story. She also had the perfect choice of last words: her iconic quote "You know nothing, Jon Snow."

Jon and Ygritte was an overall effective story-line that worked far better than Jon's rushed romance with Daenerys in seasons seven and eight. At the very least, it ended far better and worked as a great test for Jon Snow's character as he had to choose between duty and love.

Still, Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie are now a happily married couple in real life, so at least this story had a much more cheerful ending behind the scenes.

Like many of these deaths, this comes from the books. The books do suffer from weak prose and overly unlikable characters, but George R.R. Martin is a completely masterful plotter and even if the earlier seasons of the TV show arguably surpassed the books, Martin deserves credit for coming up with so many beautifully-written death scenes.
