Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best
19. Maester Aemon
Death: Died from old age.
Not every death in Westeros is murder. Sometimes, people just pass from natural causes and that's precisely what happened to Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughan, who is sadly, just like the character he played, no longer with us), who is the only person on this list to die naturally.
Maester Aemon was a really good character full of wise words and it was really sad to see him go, while the fact that he simply died of old age made this death a nice break from the shocking deaths Game of Thrones is known for.
Aemon's death was also extremely poignant and moving and his final conversations with Jon, Gilly (Hannah Murray) and Sam (John Bradley) were some of the best bits of writing in the show's hit-or-miss fifth season. He got a good funeral scene as well.
It's by far the least dramatic death in Game of Thrones history, since it's pretty much the only one that occurred as a result of natural causes, but it is still one of the better ones and a terrific send-off for an excellent character.
