Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best
17. Jeor Mormont
Death: Betrayed and murdered by members of the Night's Watch while at Craster's (Robert Pugh) Keep.
Jeor Mormont (James Cosmo) was a terrific character and it was deeply, deeply sad to see him taken down in such an unpleasant way: betrayed and murdered by his own men.
This is one of those deaths which really left you staring at the screen, open-mouthed, and thinking "What the actual hell just happened?" and was one of the many shocking, out-of-nowhere deaths that Game of Thrones became so well-known for in its early days.
It was a tragic end for a hugely likeable character that, like many of these early deaths, didn't feel shock for shock's sake, but rather mirrored the unpredictable nature of such a messed-up and troubled world.
Also, his death was avenged in an awesome fight scene in season four, during which a group of Night's Watch men, led by Jon Snow, took down the mutineers (who'd stayed at Craster's Keep during this time).
