Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best

18. Theon Greyjoy

Game Of Thrones Ned Stark
HBO

Death: Killed by the Night King during the Battle of Winterfell while defending Bran Stark.

The best death of season eight by several clear miles. It's unsure as to what Theon (Alfie Allen) was hoping to achieve by charging at the Night King like that, but this death was still a heroic one and, since he died defending the place he'd betrayed so many years before, Theon's redemptive arc was fully complete. In fact, since Jaime's redemptive arc was so ruthlessly betrayed, this was ultimate the best such arc in Game of Thrones history.

It also occurred while 'The Night King', one of the best scores Ramin Diawadi composed for Game of Thrones (and that's saying something) was playing in the background, which made it that much better.

Another wonderful detail was seen in the next episode, in the surprisingly awesome (considering the low overall quality of season eight's fourth episode) opening in which the casualties of the Battle of Winterfell were burnt. Sansa put a wolf pin on Theon's body before the pyre was lit. Beautiful.
