Game of Thrones Season 5: 10 Most Shocking Moments So Far
3. Ser Barristan Bites The Dust
It can’t be easy being George R. R. Martin. Sure, his A Song Of Ice And Fire series of fantasy novels has sold millions and spawned a little TV show some people watch occasionally, but it ain’t all pigeon pie and blackberry wine. Martin’s been writing his epic tale for almost twenty-five years now, and he’s spent half that time batting back constant questions about when he’s gonna release the next bloody book and enduring all manner of personal insults to boot.
The long delay between books has resulted in Game Of Thrones catching up, moving past or increasingly diverging from the events therein, so even hardcore fans can’t be sure what’s coming next anymore.
So when a prominent character does get bumped off – in this case Ser Barristan Selmy – the sucker punch comes with an extra kick. Particularly when it looked like Grey Worm might have perished with him as the two collapsed in a heap, corpses strewn all around them.
A shame really as Ser Barristan lived up to his reputation as a certified badass in the brief window he was given to prove it but, alas, the geriaction hero is no more.
