2. Who Will Fill The Villainous Void?

Rest In Pieces, Ramsay Bolton.

Game of Thrones often deals with characters who exist in various shades of grey, but Ramsay Bolton was jet black evil. Sick, sadistic, and completely brutal, he took joy in inflicting mental, emotional, and physical torture on his victims, most notably Theon Greyjoy and Sansa Stark.

It's for that reason he had to die. And it's for that reason that watching his death unfold - beaten to a bloody pulp, then fed to the hounds - was such a horrifying delight.

Ramsay, though, after his introduction back in Season 2, has steadily grown into the show's central villain. He previously took second standing behind Joffrey, but after his death moved to the forefront. While the Night's King is the overarching big bad for the endgame, Thrones is now in need of another human villain to fill the void left by Ramsay's death, but who will it be?

The most likely candidate at the moment is Euron Greyjoy: already shown to be both cruel and powerful, the partnership of Daenerys and the Greyjoys should only bring him more into the bigger conflict, and pit him against multiple important characters rather than just the Iron Islanders. As for who else it could be, it's hard to say. The Lannisters, with Cersei's increasing madness, are another possibility, especially if there's a renewed focus on their alliance with the Freys. Outside of that, I'm not so sure who could make the step up.
