Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Battle Of The Bastards'
8. Davos Learns The Truth
Davos has stealthily been a great character for years now, but he's really started coming to the fore in Season 6, playing a big role in advising Jon Snow ahead of the battle with Ramsay (not to mention being responsible for convincing Melisandre to bring him back in the first place).
He gets a few good scenes in this episode, which is no less than he deserves: he and Tormund have a respectful bond developing, which culminates with the widling telling Davos "Happy shi**ing!" Then there's his place commanding the archers, before realising its futility and rushing forwards to join the fight.
However, it's a much quieter moment, outside of the battle, that gives him his place on this list. Taking a walk, he discovers a burial site, and lying there is the stag he carved for Shireen. Liam Cunningham sells the moment excellently - the dawning realisation of just what happened to the little girl, and the emotion the comes with it. When he arrives at Winterfell he's no longer concerned with the outcome of the battle, but has his eyes firmly trained on Melisandre, meaning we should finally get that resolution in the season finale.
