Game Of Thrones Season 6: 14 New Cast Members You Need To Know About

4. James Faulkner

Game Of Thrones Ian Mcshane
ITV

The Actor: Appearing on screen since the 70s, James Faulkner has over 100 credits to his name, including roles in films such as Bridget Jones' Diary and X-Men: First Class. Most recently he was in season 5 of Downton Abbey, playing Lord Sinderby, so he is at least accustomed to playing someone in a high position, although it's a very different Lord he'll be on Game of Thrones.

The Role: The Lord in question is Randyll Tarly, wife of Melessa, father of Samwell, Dickon, and Talla, the Lord of Horn Hill and head of House Tarly. He has a fearsome reputation, not just from being hard on Sam growing up, but as one of the best warriors and battle commanders in all of the Seven Kingdoms.

He's a fierce man, a no nonsense sort of leader, and an extremely intimidating figure. It's also worth noting that he wields the sword Heartsbane, which is one of the last known blades amde of Valyrian steel in the realm. At the end of A Dance with Dragons he has actually reached King's Landing, but his story here is more likely to see him involved with Sam and his efforts to reach Oldtown.
