'Battle of the Bastards' was a triumph for television in general. Some have taken up the cry of "overrated" since the episode's massive praise. Yes, there are issues with it, but it presented something that has never before been seen on television and rivaled the greatest battles depicted in films.

Miguel Sapochnik has proven to be a great asset for the show and he directs the hell out of this episode. This 60-some minutes of television contains some of the most beautiful shots in the series, especially in this particular sequence. After his foolhardy solo charge at Ramsay, Jon stands alone on the battlefield, facing Bolton's charging cavalry. There's a great moment when Jon unfastens his sword belt, resigned to his faith. The image of Kit Harrington standing in front of those charging horses will be a highlight of the show for years to come. The ensuing collision on forces and chaotic battle will be hard for any show to top. All made more impressive by the fact that so much of it was done practically.
