Game Of Thrones Season 6: 6 Characters Ian McShane Could Be Playing

5. A Northern Lord

Another casting call had details of two different Northern Lords. The first seems very unlikely to be McShane, because it describes a "massive bear of a man," and while the actor can be many things, massive isn't one of them. That role does, however, sound like a return to the show for House Umber (mooted as another possible destination for Rickon). The other Northern role is a little more vague, a "ruthless and calculating" Lord in his 30s-40s. That age, you'd imagine, could be adjusted for McShane, given there don't appear to be any specific demands. The only obvious fit for a Northern Lord with an important role, that we haven't yet seen, is Wyman Manderly. Obviously this would mean some serious changing of the character's appearance - he is an obese man nicknamed Lord Too-Fat-To-Sit-A-Horse - but that isn't beyond the realms of what Weiss and Benioff are willing to do. He's certainly ruthless and calculating, and plays an important role without appearing too much. He sends Davos Seaworth to retrieve Rickon Stark (although given the Onion Knight is back at The Wall, that may not be happening) and attends the wedding of 'Arya Stark' (aka Jeyne Poole) to Ramsay Bolton. It is widely believed that he had three Frey men killed and baked into pies, which he then served at the wedding. Obviously the wedding has already happened, with Sansa instead, and they've made their escape, so unfortunately we may not get to see the Frey pies, but given his role in the book you'd think there's still a way they can fit him into the show.
