Game Of Thrones Season 6: 6 Characters Ian McShane Could Be Playing
4. Marwyn The Mage
Archmaester Marwyn, otherwise known as Marwyn the Mage, has only had a small role so far in the books, but he does look set to be a much more important character. He's one of the Archmaesters of The Citadel, who Sam meets when he arrives there. He's finally headed that way in the show now, so Marwyn turning up would make sense, and McShane would fit the character. He is one of the characters known to have travelled beyond the lands across the Narrow Sea, mapping out the various points and studying with warlocks and shadowbinders (hence his nickname). He also strongly implies that he has knowledge of dragons, and at the very least believes in them. After hearing Sam's story about why he's journeyed there and what is coming from beyond The Wall, he hurries off to sail to Daenerys Targaryen and offer her his services. That indicates that he's going to have a much bigger part to play, if he does reach Daenerys anyway, and possesses key knowledge not only about dragons, but also White Walkers. This may mean he's going to play some role in the overall end battle, when it comes down to the dragons vs the Others, so while it is a small role at this point, it'd certainly fit with being an important one.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
