Game Of Thrones Season 6: 6 Crazy Fan Theories About Bran Stark

4. He Caused Robert's Rebellion

Taking what we saw during The Door, with Hodor's death and the repeated cries of "hold the door," the idea of Bran being involved in past events is quite an intriguing one, and in some ways there's no end of events you could point to him being involved in.

However, this takes the specific way in which it happens, rather than the causal loop element, and applies it to one of the biggest events in recent Westerosi history: the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, killing Lord Rickard Stark and his son Brandon, thus really kickstarting Robert's Rebellion.

The Mad King was known to have frequently heard voices in his head, and was said to have simply repeated "burn them all" at the outset of the Rebellion. This theory, then, suggests that he didn't mean the Rebels or people of King's Landing, but the White Walkers.

The Season 6 trailer made it look like we're going to see a flashback to the Mad King being stabbed by Jaime Lannister (see image above), and if that's the case then it will likely be via Bran, and means we could see more of Aerys before this happened. So it goes that Bran and/or Meera is shouting something along the lines of 'burn them all', presumably in reference to wights or dead bodies, and the Mad King hears those voices and that leads to him going increasingly mad.

There already appears to be some precedent set for this too, as it's not as though Bran needs to warg into someone to be heard: it's strongly hinted that his father heard his shout at the Tower of Joy.

Mad? Yes. But then so was Aerys.
