While fans may have had dream casting ideas of Richard Armitage or Mads Mikkelson, it is in actuality Danish actor Pilou Asbæk who has got the role. He's only 33-years-old, which makes him a lot younger than the man in the 40s-50s they were initially looking for, and considerably younger than Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide is 70!). However, he does certainly bear a resemblance to Alfie Allen, and with some make-up, effects, and wigs, could conceivably look older than his years, and it'll be his performance that really makes the character anyway. He has a number of TV credits to his name, best known for his role as Kasper Juul in The Borgen, has also appeared in The Borgias, Lucy, and will be in the upcoming remake of Ben-Hur. However, this will be his most high-profile role to date, but Game of Thrones has a great reputation when it comes to casting the right people for the right role, so it'll be exciting to see just what Asbæk brings to the role.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
