6. A Callback Of Swords

The Tower of Joy was a treasure trove of Easter eggs, as evidenced by the Kingsguard cloaks, and there was not one but two related to swords here, which makes sense given most of the scene is a swordfight.

Ser Arthur Dayne, sadly, doesn't wield Dawn - a greatsword said to have been made of metal forged from a fallen star, with a blade as pale as milkglass - but instead has two rather more regular swords, although he does at least use them in spectacular fashion. Arthur Dayne was the man who knighted Jaime Lannister, and his two swords is a reminder of something Jaime said back when he was Brienne's prisoner: "I never understood why some knights feel the need to carry two swords."

The second sword reference lies with Ned Stark. Again, it's a great shame we don't get to see a famous blade here - in Ned's case, Ice - but the sword we see does fit with what's come before (or technically after): it's the same one he wore when he rode with Robert Baratheon to King's Landing to serve as Hand of the King. Clearly this is his 'everyday use' sword, with Ice saved for special occasions.
