5. What Happens In The Tower

After the battle has finished, Ned makes his way into the Tower of Joy to find his sister Lyanna (who he heard screaming during the fight). However, it's not exactly what he would've wanted.

He finds her in a room at the top of the tower, in a pool of her own blood. Although the exact cause of her death remains a mystery, it is noted that a fever had taken all of her strength, and that the room smelled of "blood and roses."

Lyanna, aged just 16, died in Ned's arms in the Tower of Joy, and he returns her body to Winterfell so that she can be buried in the crypts there (her statue was, until the flashback in Home, all we'd seen of Lyanna on the show). Before her death, however, she made Ned promise her something...
