Game Of Thrones Season 6: 8 Things You Need To Know About Tower Of Joy
6. Who's Involved In The Battle
Ned Stark takes six of his loyal bannermen with him when he begins the raid on the Tower of Joy: Howland Reed, Lord of Greywater Watch, and father to Meera and Jojen (who we've already met on the show); William Dustin, Lord of Barrowton; Ethan Glover, Brandon Stark's former squire; Martyn Cassel, brother of Rodrik (killed by Theon) and father to Jory (killed by Jaime); Theo Wull, aka 'Buckets'; and Mark Ryswell, a knight.
For the other side, there was Gerold Hightower, then Lord Commander of the Kingsguard; Ser Oswell Whent; and Ser Arthur Dayne, known as the Sword of the Morning, and remembered as one of the greatest knights (and the most chivalrous) in Westeros, the man who knighted Jaime Lannister, and Rhaegar's closest friend - Ned himself claims that Dayne would've killed him, were it not for the intervention of Howland Reed.
Although the numbers seem unfair, it's worth remembering that the three Kingsguard were the finest warriors in the land, and thus capable of taking on numerous men at once, although not quite enough to claim victory.
It's unclear which of these characters we've already seen, with the exception of Ned, but it's highly likely (given his prominence and dialogue) that Arthur Dayne is the man wielding two swords, which is different from his one greatsword, Dawn, that he has in the books (which, frankly, is the only disappointing aspect of this so far, because that would've been wonderful to see).
