Game Of Thrones Season 7: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Stormborn'
4. Theon Jumps Overboard
This one is a little harder to judge, because in one sense it's an absolutely terrible thing Theon does here. Confronted by his uncle, who has taken his sister, Theon is faced with two options: fight or flee. He chooses the latter and, in a startling moment of self-preservation, jumps overboard.
Theon has been through so much to get to the point where, free of Ramsay, he is back at his sister's side and ready to fight with her. To that end, it could feel like a big step backwards for the character.
And yet, this moment speaks directly to the heart of the character, and the way he's been so tortured. After living with Ramsay for so long, Theon cannot possibly face up to another monster like him. There's still too much trauma there, and it's the unexpected move that makes it a richer character moment rather than him just being the hero.
From where he's been to where he is now, Theon's is one of the arcs with real emotional resonance, and that's clear to see here. Alfie Allen does some great work, his face staring not at Euron and Yara, but into his own dark past, so that we know what he's imagining when he leaps from the ship.
