Game Of Thrones Season 7: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Stormborn'

Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Theon Yara Greyjoy

The trailers for Season 7 promised a number of epic-looking battles, and the first of them arrives here: the much-anticipated Battle of the Greyjoys, as Theon and Yara run into their Uncle Euron.

We haven't had too many seafaring battles on the series (even the Battle of the Blackwater saw the fighting mostly take place on land), and this new dynamic lends something new to the show. The fiery blaze looks suitably impressive and ominous, and the way it's shot is frenzied and chaotic.

Director Mark Mylod also helmed Season 5's Sons of the Harpy, and there's a similarity to how the battle unfolds here and the Harpies attack on Meereen, though this has a much greater sense of spectacle (if one that's a little too difficult to see in certain moments).

Even better, though, is the presence of Euron Greyjoy as a proper villain. Last week hinted at it, but this episode delivers it. From the slightly cartoonish way he enters the battle, to the sight of him slashing and snarling his way through anyone in sight, and taking clear delight in doing so, this is the kind of Euron fans expected and wanted.

The Winds of Winter preview chapter The Foresaken paints the Crow's Eye as a truly terrifying monster - it's revealed that, among other things, he molested at least one of his brothers - and while we're not there yet, we are closer to having the Euron who, as Pilou Asbæk promised, will make Ramsay look like a little kid.
