Game Of Thrones Season 7: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Spoils Of War'
Downs...
2. It Was A Little Too Short
Revealed prior to airing, this was the shortest ever episode of Game of Thrones, coming in at 50 minutes.
That's not inherently a bad thing, as TV shows don't always need to adhere to a fixed runtime (more fluidity in this regard is something we're seeing more of thanks to services like Netflix, and there are clear advantages to it).
With The Spoils of War, though, it certainly could've been a bit longer. Perhaps that's due to how brilliant most of it was, and this is nitpicking slightly, but some scenes would've benefitted from a little extra breathing room.
The most obvious example of this is Theon coming back to Dragonstone and - in another big reunion - finding Jon Snow. There's a lot of weight on that, given what Theon did to Jon's family, but the episode skims by it too quickly for us to really experience it.
The scene with Cersei and Tycho Nestoris similarly felt just stuck in there, serving as a brief moment of exposition about the Golden Company and the gold on its way from Highgarden, and perhaps with a little longer there it could've been a more interesting conversation.
