Game Of Thrones Season 7: 7 Major Fan Theories About Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen

3. Jon Is Azor Ahai, Dany Is Nissa Nissa

The theory of the Prince That Was Promised reared its head in the show again this week, with Melisandre arriving on Dragonstone to outline it to Daenerys, with Missandei filling in that it could indeed be a Prince or Princess.

The PTWP is typically used interchangeably with Azor Ahai and other such legends, the general belief being that they all point to the same legendary figure, with the second-coming featuring the same heralding signs (and this is even more likely to be true in the show than books, if the figure does return at all). And while Stannis was Melisandre's first pick, her resurrection of Jon Snow makes him one of the likely options.

Melisandre sees 'snow' when she looks into her flames, while Jon was born under a burning star (this could be taken either as Dawn, the sword of Arthur Dayne, or Melisandre herself, if she is indeed the daughter of Bloodraven and Seastar), and Bowen Marsh cried salty tears when he died while his wounds smoked (some of this is textual evidence found just in the books, but it's the kind of thing the show can gloss over).

What is often neglected when it comes to Azor Ahai, though, is his wife, Nissa Nissa. After forging metal for 100 days (and this came after previous attempts, using water and then a lion, failed), Azor Ahai drove his sword into the breast of his wife, and was thus able to draw Lightbringer. If Azor Ahai is to be reborn, then will Nissa Nissa too? If so, and Jon is AA, Daenerys is arguably the strongest contender. It'd fit with the ending being bittersweet, and of both Jon and Daenerys having a "part to play".
