To reference a wildly outdated meme: You had one job.

The purpose of the Night's Watch - "the shield that guards the realm of men" - is to watch and hold the Wall. Granted that job has been made a lot more difficult in recent years, with numbers severely dwindling, but the Wall (as we were so often reminded this season) stood for 8,000 years. And under the protection of Lord Commander Dolorous Edd and his brothers, it came crashing down.

There's not much they could've done to stop a wight dragon's blue flame, and it didn't even occur at Castle Black, but nonetheless this was the Night Watch's role, and ultimately they failed. That's a huge L.
