5. Wight Bears

The first big action sequence of the episode comes when the ranging party are attacked by a huge, undead bear. It's an early shock, but there is some precedent for these in the books.

Snow bears are the Westeros equivalent of polar bears, with one supposedly growing to 13-feet tall. It's said that the Children of the Forest used snow bears to fight for them, but there are also signs of undead ones too.

Sam recalls seeing a bear when the wights attacked the Fist of the First Men: "...Dead, pale and rotting... Only its eyes lived. Bright blue..."

In A Dance with Dragons, Bran also sees such a creature, a huge and skeletal beast that moves even as Summer eats it.
