Game Of Thrones Season 7: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Eastwatch'

7. Tyrion Drinks And Knows Things

It's been a strange season for Tyrion Lannister. After too long on the sidelines he's been brought back into the main game, but with that has been a series of poor decisions that led to big losses for Team Daenerys.

Daenerys is now ignoring a lot of his counsel, but once again it's impossible to ignore how good Peter Dinklage is. He dominates every scene he's in here, and perhaps more crucially, is back to drinking, something we haven't seen him do much this season.

Tyrion drinks and he knows things, and maybe a lack of alcohol is why he hasn't been at the top of his game this year. His scenes with Daenerys and Varys are both great, in particular the latter (the Dragon Throne conversation is another great example of the Westerosi plotting and scheming that's come back to the fore this year), and it's interesting to see his struggles with what Daenerys is doing.

He still believes in her right now, but you can clearly see how much his own conscience weighs down on him. His advice may not always be sound - though appealing to Cersei through Jaime isn't a bad move - but there's a fascinating struggle within the character, which hopefully they'll allow us to see more of, and it makes us question the morality of the choices by two heroes on the same side.
