Game Of Thrones Season 7: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Eastwatch'

While their reunion last week provided some heartfelt moments, it was also clear that it wasn't going to be totally easy for Arya and Sansa to be back together. The two never had a great relationship, and Eastwatch really accelerates the reopening of those divisions.

Indeed, the conflict between Sansa and Arya could feel a little forced, since Arya has only just gotten to Winterfell (though the passage of time is an unknowable concept on this show), but it largely gets away with that because of their shared history.

It also better serves the larger plan, which belongs to one Petyr Baelish. He's been watching more than he has been plotting this year, which isn't really fitting for the character, but he gets back in the game here.

At first it makes him look like an idiot - seriously, he hid the scroll under his bed?! - but then the tables turn, and we learn he's actually on to Arya. The letter - in which Sansa tells Robb to bend the knee, albeit forced to write it by Cersei - is reinforced by that earlier scene: if Arya and Sansa are already at loggerheads over Winterfell and their family, this could further stoke those flames, while also giving him something to hold over Sansa too.

It's not going to be enough to save him, and it's still a good bet that Arya murders him eventually, but it's one last Littlefinger play, and payoff for so many episodes of him leaning against walls and speaking in riddles.
