1. The Great War Is Here

The Great War was teased throughout the marketing for Season 7, but so far we haven't really seen it, although we did get the biggest glimpse yet in Beyond The Wall.

The real action of the Great War will come for Season 8, but the finale needs to get us to the starting point of that. That means the White Walkers have to invade Westeros, and the Wall needs to come crashing down.

It's terrible news for the realm of men, and especially those at the Wall - which means Dolorous Edd at Castle Black, and, more worringly, Tormund and Beric who are seemingly sticking around at Eastwatch.

The Night King now has a dragon, which could potentially burn down the Wall (or enough of it to bring it down), while Bran has already passed through, meaning the magic stopping the dead from passing through might've been broken. If they want to fully setup the final season as the living vs the dead, then this is the most impactful way of doing it.
