Game Of Thrones Season 7 Finale: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Dragon And The Wolf'

2. Winterfell Remains Weird

Game Of Thrones Sansa Finale

This week gave us the payoff to the season-long Winterfell storyline, but it didn't fully redeem nor explain it, which means it remains a weaker part of Season 7 despite that end-point.

If, indeed, the two were playing a game with Littlefinger, then it still doesn't explain the weirdness of last week when they were at each other's throats, nor any of their interactions beyond the initial reunion in the crypts (unless it's just 'oh he might be listening').

If it took Bran getting them to that point, which his presence and importance to the scene suggests (as he's the only one offering any kind of proof), then it begets the question of why didn't they ask him sooner?

This was one example where they had the end goal in mind - Littlefinger dying in the season finale - and it seems they wrote backwards to get there, which is how a lot of this season has felt.

They wanted to fool not just Littlefinger but viewers too, it seems, because Baelish had to die and they needed something for Winterfell with Jon away, but did a disservice to those characters while doing so. Still, at least we got that last, Ned-quoting scene between them, which is the kind of thing it should've been doing all along.
