Game Of Thrones Season 7 Finale: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Dragon And The Wolf'
5. Stick Them With The Pointy End
At last, Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish is no more. His death has been a season coming (at least), and the way it's delivered (if not how we got there) was brilliantly done.
There's a nice bit of bait-and-switch, with Littlefinger under the impression that Arya is the one on trial, before the rug-pull (to him, if not viewers) that he's the one Sansa is really talking about.
His reaction is exactly how it should be too, and well sold by Aidan Gillen, who gives us one last wandering accent: surprise, then trying to wrestle back control of the situation, before outright begging for mercy. It doesn't work, and he dies with his throat slit, like his beloved Cat did.
It's a bit of a shame to lose Baelish, who has been such an interesting character since the very beginning, but it makes sense to do it now. Season 7 has shown he doesn't have any real part to play, and the game is changing from the one he knows, so he had to go, and it gave him a more than suitable exit.
