Game Of Thrones Season 8: 12 Things You Might've Missed In 'A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms'

Ned Stark may have died back in Season 1, but his presence has continued to be felt throughout the show's run, and that stretches into A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

When Jaime knights Brienne, he does so with Widow's Wail, while she has Oathkeeper with her. Both swords were made from re-forging Ned's Valyrian steel greatsword, Ice. With this moment, it is like Ice is being reforged, in a scene that is all about honour, much like Ned himself was. It is Ice, and honour, that binds them together.

This is also a moment that speaks not only to Ned Stark though, but also Catelyn. The following is an exchange from Season 2's A Man Without Honour (which, like this, was directed by David Nutter):

Catelyn Stark: You are no knight. You have forsaken every vow you ever took.Jaime Lannister: So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another. [indicating Brienne] Where did you find this beast?Catelyn: She is a truer knight than you will ever be, Kingslayer.Jaime: Kingslayer. And what a king he was! Here's to Aerys Targaryen, the second of his name, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, and to the sword I shoved in his back!Catelyn Stark: You are a man without honour.

Going back to Jaime knighting Brienne, it so brilliantly calls back to this moment too, and once again speaks to honour, to the fact Brienne has always been a Knight at heart, and to Jaime having discovered the kind of Knight he should be thanks to her.
