Game Of Thrones Season 8: 13 Predictions & Theories For The Battle Of Winterfell

2. The Mormonts' Last Stand

Game of Thrones Lyanna Mormont
HBO

If you think that Game Of Thrones wouldn't kill another child and that young Lyanna Mormont is safe until the show is over, you've not been paying attention. Remember little Ned Umber? Yeah...

Anyway, it actually now fits Lyanna's story that she would die at Winterfell. She has always been a defiant figure, fiercely committed to the North's interests and in her loyalty to the King In The North. There's no way she would run away nor cower from the battle, as she tells Ser Jorah when he implores her to take refuge in the Crypt. The only answer - and the one the show arguably most needs - is for her to go down fighting for what she believes in.

The fact that she's young and that her death would wipe out House Mormont's future only makes the prediction more likely, because it fits her sense of honour.

And talking of honourable Mormonts: it's likely that her cousin Jorah will die defending his Khaleesi too. Now that he has Heartsbane, the best and most fitting way to end his story is to have him joining forces with Lyanna for a last stand that allows someone else important to make their escape. And then we can erect a statue in their honour celebrating the most underrated House in the Seven Kingdoms. Or at least get some T-shirts printed or something.
