Game Of Thrones Season 8: 6 Clues From The Finale's Trailer
1. Queen Of The Ashes
She may have said she didn't intend to be the Queen of the Ashes when Olenna Tyrell told her she had to rule by fear, but the old woman's words clearly did play a part in her character evolution, because that's exactly what she is now.
You have to wonder about Dany's mental state now that she has laid waste to King's Landing: it was an emotional release, inspired by a series of factors that cynics seem to have missed wilfully in order to complain about the lack of satisfying character development. But the hangover from such a moment is far more interesting: how does someone who has been shaped for so long to be "the right queen" even against her inherent instincts at times rule over a kingdom terrified of her and mourning great losses committed by her hand?
She already struggled to rule benevolently in Meereen - which was an important set-up point for this final episode - and she didn't kill thousands of innocents when she flew in there. So this will be a challenge.
While the trailer is careful not to show Dany properly, we have to hope that her transition into the Mad Queen will not be immediately reversed. THAT would be poor writing, not what got us here, and the writers have to be brave enough to continue exploring her mentality after everything that made her rain fire on King's Landing.
