Game Of Thrones Season 8: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Bells'
2. The Euron/Jaime Fight
Euron Greyjoy's character is... well, it's still not fully clear, even as the character departs this world. His arrival as 'the storm' gave way to sexy emo pirate, and he's ramped up on the Evil Jack Sparrowness more and more with each passing episode.
This isn't to moan that they ruined the character from the books, but rather that they didn't make him much of a character at all, beyond whatever device they needed him to be to help Cersei and take down Daenerys.
Maybe that's why, ultimately, his fight with Jaime doesn't work. Or maybe it's because the scene itself is just too silly to take seriously, especially contrasted to the visceral thrill of Cleganebowl. It's a stalling device - done, presumably, to give enough time for the roof to be coming down when Jaime and Cersei attempt to escape - but there's no real heft in either narrative or character here. Euron gurns to the camera as he dies, proclaiming himself "the man who killed Jaime Lannister," as if that's what he'll be remembered for. Instead, it's a scene that would be better forgotten.
