Game Of Thrones Season 8: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Bells'

1. Not Enough Cersei

Cersei Lannister goes out in a great way here - despite all the theories, the Valonqar was never part of the show, although if you're looking for it then Jaime does have his hands on her throat in a nice subversion of it - but that doesn't mean the episode completely does her justice.

By design, it needs to give more time to Daenerys and then her destruction of King's Landing. But that also means that there's not much time to spend with Cersei in her final ever episode, which is a real shame for such a brilliant character.

Lena Headey makes the most of every second she's on screen, with one last masterclass in facial expressions and even making you care, just a little, for Cersei's doom, but it's not really enough. It would be had Season 8 spent more time with her, but she was missing from two whole episodes, and hardly in the other two. Her endpoint worked, but it would've been much better to spend more time with her in the build-up to it. That's a wider issue with these truncated final seasons, really (a decision that plays a part in the pacing of some character decisions, even if they work here), and it's annoying to have it play out again here.
