Game Of Thrones Season 8: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Last Of The Starks'

1. Pacing

Those logic gaps are compounded by the pacing of the episode, which in part is a victim of being the fourth episode in a sixth episode season, or in other words the fact the showrunners need to get a move on.

That's a real shame though, because there are a few scenes here that could either do with more time to be setup, or to actually see them play out. The issue with Bronn, for example, could've been helped had there been a scene between him getting the mission and turning up in that room. The Jaime and Brienne stuff was largely great, but how much nicer would it have been to see more of that, especially learning more of what it means to them both. There's hardly time to process Rhaegal's death before, bang, we're moving on.

The one that suffers the most is the scene in the Godswood, where Jon tells Arya and Sansa the truth about his parentage. At this point, no matter how much Jon says he doesn't want the Iron Throne, his identity is the most important plot point on the show. Him telling his family, who think they're his sisters, of who he really is should be a massive deal. And the show does build to it nicely, and then we're robbed of seeing their reactions. An extra couple of minutes, even, would've been great to have there, and in turn help setup Sansa telling Tyrion, which again comes very fast. It's a tricky balance to get right with so few episodes left, and this one falls on the wrong side of it.
