Game Of Thrones Season 8: 8 Huge Questions 'The Bells' Leaves Behind

7. Who Was Varys Writing To?

Game Of Thrones Varys
HBO

Although it leads to his death, the episode opens with Varys writing letters containing the information that Jon Snow is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

We see him burn one of these letters, but it's left open enough that at least one could have been sent, if not more. And if that's the case, then it begs the question of who he was writing to, and what action they'll take if/when they receive the news?

There are a couple of contenders. It could be his old conspiratorial buddy Illyrio Mopatis, who could be able to see out Varys' vision of installing Jon on the Iron Throne. But more likely is he's trying to win support of other Kingdoms, which in this case would mean Robin Arryn in the Vale (who is still something of a loose-end to be tied up), and that new Prince of Dorne mentioned last week.
