Game Of Thrones Season 8: 8 Huge Questions 'The Bells' Leaves Behind

5. What’s Up With The Horse

Game of Thrones Arya Pale Horse
HBO

The answer to the question of what happens with Arya might lie with, of all things, a horse.

As the episode draws to a close, Arya beholds a pale white horse, and rides it out of the city. It’s the kind of moment that’s begging to be overanalysed. Is this the showrunners going for something of Biblical proportions, a la the following:

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him."

Does that reckon with her turning away from vengeance? Maybe. There is a difference between personal revenge and killing those whose time is up. A girl understands this. If not Arya as Death, then could the white horse instead be a symbol of innocence or purity? Of Arya, for so long a killer, now being turned from a path of hatred?

Or is it just a horse?
