Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms' REALLY Means

4. Jon Tells Dany The Truth (And It Kicks Off)

Dany Jon Game Of Thrones

In one of the episode's most rewarding moments, Sam reminds Jon that he ought to probably tell Dany about him being her nephew and the true heir to the Iron Throne. Naturally, he eventually does so in the Crypt, where all important narrative happens now by apparent Royal Decree or something. Mostly because it's where you can discuss the skeletons in your closet around actual skeletons in rewardingly moody lighting.

Inevitably, Dany first doesn't believe the story, because she's been brought up on the legends of her family fed to her by her brother (both good and bad) and because it's devastating to her idea of herself as the one true heir to the throne.

Dany is now in conflict, obviously, torn between her love of Jon and the threat he represents to her claim to the throne. It's a strange reaction, considering she really SHOULD throw herself behind the strongest claim of her family, but there's a reason we've been fed repeated moments where Dany's volatility is very obvious.
