Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms' REALLY Means

3. Samwell Tarly, Slayer Of White Walkers, Lover Of Ladies

That scene on the battlements with the reunion of Jon, Sam and Dolorous Edd would have been the best of the entire episode were it not for the scenes in Winterfell with Tormund, Brienne, Jaime, Davos, Pod, and Tyrion. But then nothing can take away from the fact that it's still an incredible sequence.

We finally get to see Sam's character come full circle as he casts off the bullying he was subjected to at the Wall by making a virgin joke as Edd's expense (as if him not breaking his vows is anything but the most honourable thing) and then refusing to be coddled by Jon.

Now, admittedly Sam surrenders Heartsbane to Ser Jorah and retires to the Crypt eventually, but for a moment, we're once more reminded that the meek, mild-mannered scholar might well have his Neville Longbottom/Other Chosen One moment eventually. After all, he WAS the first person to kill a White Walker and he's survived a lot more otherwise.

This is the second week in a row we've been reminded of Sam's importance and if it doesn't turn out he's writing the History of the Seven Kingdoms, he's going to be in the middle of the final battle in some way.
