Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms' REALLY Means
9. What The Night King Wants
For a while now, it's been vaguely assumed that The Night King's quest is simply for dominion and destruction, but this episode actually gave the story some more shape. The new Winterfell War Council sit to plan what to do and Bran reveals that the Night King's weakness is his desire to take down the Three Eyed Raven, which explains why he was so interested to see Bran during the set up in The Door.
Bran says that the Night King wants "an endless night. He wants to erase its world and I am its memory." He is not content with destroying man, he wants to rid the world of any sign that it was ever there by destroying Bran and stopping the legacy of the Three Eyed Ravens in future. They've played this game for a long time and it's that that gives the living a slim chance.
And as a side reminder, Tormund tells Jon that anyone not at Winterfell has fallen. That's more than a few houses and potentially a fair few Northern bannerman now gone too. That army is going to be insanely big.
