Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms' REALLY Means

8. The Plan To Take The Night King Down (And Its Flaws)

So, with Bran confirming that the Night King only has eyes for him, we get another of those plans made by supposedly Great Men that has some seriously deep flaws to it, though this one genuinely looks like the only one that could possibly ever work.

The plan is for the entire Winterfell army to act as a distraction, fighting for as long as possible to hold off the White Walker lieutenants and the sprawling masses of wights while Bran goes to the Godswood to draw the Night King there. He won't be alone, since Theon has returned to defend Winterfell and make up for his past treachery and will have his incredibly flexible army of Iron Born with him (which seems to number about 3, but will definitely be more next episode because otherwise that's the worst defensive force ever).

The hope is then that Bran will be bait and the Night King will fly in to kill him, while Dany and Jon lay in wait with their dragons, ready to blast him with dragonfire. Will it work? For once, Bran says he doesn't know, because nobody has tried before. Considering Bran's relationship with time is fluid at best, but what we do know is that he's seen the cycle of the Night King attacking "many times", the fact that he's never seen that suggests the living have an advantage this time.
