Game Of Thrones Season 8: Every Death Ranked Worst To Best

2. Missandei

The straw that broke the camel's back.

Missandei's death on its own terms is a shocking moment in the final season, because it took one of the most harmless characters in the show (at least in terms of her active role in battles and machinations) and killed her off in a brutal way.

In a mirror of Ned Stark's death, Tyrion stood in front of the walls of King's Landing and appealed to Cersei's humanity - knowing full-well that her defiance would lead to all-out war and possibly a lot worse - and the Queen still had The Mountain behead her prisoner for effect.

This was Cersei goading Dany into becoming the Mad Queen in order to guarantee that even if she won, Dany would never be able to avoid exacting revenge and losing her ability to become the "just" Queen she sought to be. It was almost like Cersei's Olenna Tyrell moment when she told Jaime to tell Cersei that she'd poisoned her beloved son as her dying wish. She'd never live to see the fallout, but it was far from a hollow victory.

If ever you struggle to understand Dany's arc in the last two episodes, watch this scene again.
