How He Died

Though some of the characters who seemed to be walking around with massive targets on their back managed to walk away from Winterfell with their lives, Theon Greyjoy's dead meat status caught up with him. And rightly so.

Having pledged his life to protecting Bran to make up for betraying the Starks, Theon fought to his last as the wights and White Walkers flooded the Godswood in the Night King's agenda to kill Bran. And to show Theon's heroic rejection of his former Reek persona, Theon died not just on his feet but charging the Night King, which earned him a spear through the belly.

What It Means

This was a symbolic one, as Theon finally found his forgiveness from Bran and could presumably rest in peace. Assuming all of his other previous crimes haven't condemned his mortal soul to an eternity fo hellfire, that is.
