Game Of Thrones Season 8 - 'The Long Night': Every Death Ranked
3. Ser Jorah Mormont
How He Died
Eventually, you just can't fight the tide of inevitability any more, which is basically what killed Ser Jorah Mormont in the end. But at least he got one more chance to prove his loyalty to Dany, who very possibly didn't actually deserve his devotion.
When all seemed lost for Dany and Drogon had necessarily abandoned her to save his own hide from being eaten off his flesh, Jorah pulled the Hail Mary, using Heartsbane (the most appropriately named sword for him to use, naturally) to chop down multiple wights and keep her safe.
Sadly, despite a valiant effort, he falls just as her safety is confirmed and dies in her arms.
What It Means
Other than his arc coming to the perfect end, Jorah's removal strips away a key ally for Dany and one who was a calming influence on her. Jorah was an advisor and a dependable figure (even after betraying her initially) and taking him out of the equation potentially leaves Dany more open to volatility in the final episodes, which adds an interesting spin to her conflicts with Cersei, Jon AND Sansa.
