Game Of Thrones Spin-Off: Everything We Know About 'The Long Night'

4. Naomi Watts Will Star

The first bit of casting was revealed a couple of weeks ago, and it's an absolute doozy, with Naomi Watts signing on for a leading role in the series.

Watts, who is a two-time Oscar nominee, is impressive in just about everything she's in, including captivating turns in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks: The Return. With bags of charm but also the range to play just about any sort of character across the hero/villain spectrum, and of course her blonde hair, she already appears like a great fit for an early Lannister.

Indeed, there are even theories she could be Lann the Clever's wife, or in a real twist Lann the Clever himself (or herself, as the case would be). That fits with the vague but enticing description of her character too, which has her playing "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret."

This show will be subverting legends, and Watts is such a big name that she must be playing someone particularly noteworthy, even if it ends up being like Sean Bean's role.
